The original design was prompted by requests from the national railway operators in England who wanted a central communications centre to have the ability to talk to individual operators at any of their stations and yards around the country via their hand-held 2-way radios.

A seemingly impossible task that has led to the widely accliamed Smart-Link series of products now also adopted by many different industries to suit their own range of requirements.
